Khidmah Organisation was formed in 1999 as a non-profit voluntary organisation with its vision of bringing the community of Leicester together through community events. Our vision for the CommUNITY funday has always been to bridge the gaps between Leicester’s diverse communities through our tagline ‘Building Bridges, Connecting Communities’. It is our firm belief that promoting community cohesion is the key to creating a stronger, more inclusive society. The events that are organised achieves this vision and allows all to enjoy a day of recreation, sports activities, entertainment and education.

Our aims are

  • To provide a range of services whereby the diverse communities of Leicester gather together and forge lifelong relationships.
  • To organise events/activities encouraging community cohesion and respect towards people and the neighbourhood they live in, as championed through our tagline: ‘Building Bridges, Connecting Communities.’
  • To empower communities in engaging with service provisions, by connecting with providers and becoming part of the decision-making framework.

Our objectives are

  • We will organise events and develop programmes celebrating diversity and common values.
  • Promoting the medium of sports, education and social enterprise to produce a foundation for community cohesion.
  • Working in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to empower individuals as well as providing valuable resources and support.

Khidmah Organisation has developed into an established charity offering a wide range of services to the local community of Leicester. In previous years, Khidmah Organisation has organised innumerable fundraising events for national and global causes, recruitment events, youth clubs, homework clubs, refugee support, food bank, residential trips and much more. However, the commUNITY funday remains the pioneer event to this day, attracting at its peak 20,000 attendees.

The commUNITY funday entails sport activities and healthy competition for young and old to participate in. As mentioned, statutory and voluntary services zone providing vital information regarding their services. Another popular zone on the day is the food zone with a wide range of cuisines. In a time where the cost-of-living crisis is impacting everyone, Khimdah Organisation prides itself on a free fun zone – consisting of bouncy castles, total wipe-out, mega-slide and gladiator suits. Further, Khimdah Organisation also include activities that are not so common and at times difficult to undertake due to costings which include archery and equestrian.

The commUNITY funday is placed in the heart of the Spinney Hill ward, whereby the demographic is predominantly of the ethnic minority backgrounds, with 82% from a BAME background. The ward is considered to be inhabited by those from a deprivation and poverty-stricken background, with almost 43% of people working in manufacturing and wholesale trade. With this in mind, it is often felt by the community that they do not have access to many opportunities. Khidmah Organisation hopes to provide opportunities and support to these communities through the annual unity and funday.
